Scenario Review: Point Defense

Scenario 3: Point Defense
The enemy positions are strategically vital for the continuation of the campaign and must be seized at all costs.

Point. Totally. Defended.

Afrika Korps Work in Progress

Greetings all you lovers of Bolt Action!

You might have heard that WWPD Steve is building an Afrika Korps force and an 8th Army force.  Well, I have the honor of painting those figures for him and thought I would share some work in progress pictures.

The miniatures are from Blacktree Designs.  Very clean metal figures with minimal flash.  Some of the figs did have "flash whiskers", hairlike pieces of flash, that is hard to detect if it is folded over, but easy to remove once you find it.  The detail on these figs is also very clean and crisp.

The pictures are of the first 6 of the 32 DAK figures I was able to snap while the troops were at the port of Bengazi gathering supplies.

Can't Wait To Get My Commonwealth On The Table

I'm unnecessary-sunglasses-in-the-bathtub-excited about getting Brits on the table, everybody, and I just can't hide it!

It's all thanks to this behemoth:

Engineer One: "Hey everyone, I've got this tank that shoots fire a hundred yards. I was thinking we could call it the Crocodile, since crocodiles are pretty rad."
Engineer Two: "Brilliant!"

"The Bazooka" Book Review

I recently had the chance to read "The Bazooka", by Gordon L. Rottman; published by Osprey Publishing.

"The Bazooka", published by Osprey Publishing. Coincidentally, tiny bazookas have blown up a lot of tiny tanks on that table.
Mr. Rottman provides the best reason to read the book in his conclusion:

"When asked to name the four things that helped most to win World War II, Gen Dwight D. Eisenhower said, "The bazooka, the jeep, the atom bomb, and the C-47 Gooney Bird."" (Rottman, p.77)

Americans vs Germans: Envelopment

"Sarge, you really want us to get out of the halftrack here?"

In our first battle of the Labor Day, modelling/gaming, weekend extravaganza/deathmarch, Dano's Americans attacked my Germans in an Evelopment scenario (p.108). The attacker in Envelopment earns three victory points for each unit he moves off the defender's table edge, or two victory points for each unit in the defender's deployment zone at the end of the game. The attacker also earns one victory point for each defending unit he destroys, while the defender earns two victory points for each attacking unit he destroys.

Warlord Games StuG III Product Review

Nate Brooks has been around Flames of War and WWPD for a long time. He generously offered to review a Warlord Games StuG III for the site, and after seeing his pics, I happily accepted! Being a review, obviously his opinions are his own and don't reflect anyone else's - I didn't have some of the issues he did with my StuG. At any rate, I hope you all enjoy his article! - Judson

BOLT ACTION: Three “Second Impressions” by Dano

Hello again my hard-charging wargaming compadres! Dano here with a follow-up article to discuss my “Three Second Impressions” of BOLT ACTION after having spent many an hour reading, forum-ing, listing and most importantly, playing this tasty game.
My “Three First Impressions” was about my initial thoughts on the book and the unique game mechanics.  These Second Impressions will be about my thoughts about the game and how the book guided me AFTER having played a dozen or so games.  Enjoy!

US Airborne Unboxing

Morning Troops,

It's a tad late coming, but I thought I would introduce the US Airborne Box set.  I have already painted three soldiers from the box, which I am sure you have glanced at from previous posts. So without any further delays lets step up and shuffle to the door, shall we?

Americans vs Germans: Hold Until Relieved

My old friend (read: nemesis) Dano and I got together over the Labor Day weekend to paint and game some Bolt Action. We initially thought we'd spend the first day putting "finishing touches" on our forces, but both of us ended up having some bare metal/plastic to completely paint. By the end of the day, we deemed our soldiers GEFAFBR (Good Enough For A First Battle Report) and got them on the table. Those "finishing touches" would have to come later.

A German sniper team zeroes in on a squad of unsuspecting GIs during our Hold Until Relieved game.

US Combat Medic

MEDIC ! It is a common line we hear in any war movie ever made.  We were screaming it as kids running around the neighborhood playing war, guns or anything which involved a toy weapon.

The combat medic has a unique bond with me since it was my MOS in the US Army Reserves.  Actually I was a second generation Combat Medic, my father served as one back in the 1960s.

Bolt Action has allowed all forces to include the Combat Medic in your HQ section.  I figured since he is the the latest of my painting que I would do a quick review of the medic.

WIP US Airborne HQ NCO

Greetings,

Next up in our WIP series is our NCO attached to the HQ.  I love this sculpt and his facial features.  I have two of these sculpts in the box set and couldn't be happier.  His M-1 in one hand and his binoculars in his left hand.  His facial features showing his urgent concerns.

German List Discussion

This isn't me, but after receiving list advice from Steve and Dano, I can relate. Run!

As war gamers, we've put many lists together in our spare time. It's what we do. Some times, that time isn't even technically spare, as our significant others and employers can attest to. I recently made one such list during my "spare" time and showed it proudly to Steve and Dano. Predictably, they shot it to pieces. Read-on for the list, my explanation, and their reactions; then add your own reactions on our forum.

WIP - US Airborne Radio Man

Greetings,

Welcome to another WIPS.  This one is directed towards our US Airborne force's radio man.  He is a wonderful looking sculpt and should be a blast to paint.  He will be attached to my HQ since the HQ allows an officer and 2 additional soldiers.
